| New Coordinator
for the Gates County GenWeb site.
For
those of you who don't know me already, my name
is Julianne "Julie" Sizemore. Quite
some time ago my husband and I decided to make
a contribution to genealogy in some small way.
Out of that idea, sprang the concept of a cemetery
survey of the county in which we lived. Neither
of us are from Gates County, nor do we have ancestors
from here (that we know of), but we have worked
and lived in the county since 1991. Thus the Gates
County Cemetery Survey was born.
Since
then the site has expanded to include other records
like the transcriptions of the Gates County Death
Index, a few marriage records, and obituaries
from the local newspaper.
Recently
I was approached by Barbara McMahon, the coordinator
of this site about the prospect of taking over
the Gates County GenWeb Project, since other life
events were making it difficult for her to keep
up with it. I agreed to take this project on and
I thank her profusely for giving me this opportunity.
That
being said, it is my plan to take some of the
content off of the Cemetery Survey site and add
it here. Other than the cemetery records, the
rest of our information gathered over the past
year will be transferred to this location.
It
will be a pleasure volunteering with the USGenWeb
and NCGenWeb
to bring you quality genealogical content to help
you in your search for your ancestors of Gates
County, NC.
A
big thanks go out once again to Barbara McMahon
who has run this site for years, and Elizabeth
Ross who started it all for this Gates County
resource. Without them, none of this would be
possible. Thanks also go out to everyone who has
contributed to this site in the past, and to those
of you who will contribute in the future. I will
do my best to add as much content as I can, but
sites like this run off of the volunteers who
make it all possible.
I
hope I won't let you all down, and that I will
be able to rise to the challenge!
Sincerely,
Julie
