Gates County IndexNov. 28, 2001William H. Hobbs A funeral was conducted Saturday at Hobbsville Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Loftus. Burial was in the church cemetery. Twiford's Memorial Chapel was in charge. Hobbs was a carpenter and a member of Hobbsville Baptist Church. Survivors include a sister, Maebelle Chappell of Hertford; and two brothers, Elliott W. Hobbs of Elizabeth City and A. Paige Hobbs of Hertford. Thomas E. Perry A funeral was conducted Tuesday at Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Wallace Phillips. Burial was in the church cemetery. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, was in charge. Perry had retired as an operations agent from Seaboard Atlantic Railroad and had also retired as an operator from Perry's Suprette. He was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Warren Perry; a daughter, Brenda Perry Williams of Eure; two sons, Thomas Eure Perry Jr. of Eure and Herbert Warren Perry Jr. of Rocky Mount; three grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Gregory W. Pierce A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Ahoskie Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Rodney Hollomon. Burial was in Ahoskie Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge. Pierce was a sales audit manager with Belk Department Stores and was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Apex. Survivors include his mother, Girien Wall Pierce of Eure; and a brother, Timothy Pierce of Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, 2460 Pruden Blvd., Suffolk, by the Rev. Cameron Currin. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Jernigan retired as a self-employed general contractor. He was a member of the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. Survivors include daughters, Carolyn J. Whaley and Charlotte
M. Holland, both of Suffolk, L. Faye Warren of Edinburgh and Cynthia J.
Stephenson of Zuni; a son, Kenneth Jernigan of Portsmouth; sisters, Gurney
Wilkins of Suffolk and Beatrice Blackwell of Pueblo, Calif, and Etta Jones
of Gates County; a brother, M.R. Jernigan of Suffolk; 10 grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. |
