Marteka G. Taylor
GATES - Marteka Gardner "Marty" Taylor, 80, a native of Minneapolis, Minn., died September 11, 2001. She was the widow of Bert F. Nichols and David Melvin Taylor.

A funeral was conducted Sunday in Middle Swamp Baptist Church by the Rev. Russell Blanchard and the Rev. Joe Buck.

Burial was in the Taylor family cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge. Memorial may be made to the American Red Cross with designation for use in blood drives or to Middle Swamp Baptist Church.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of New Middle Swamp Baptist Church, the church choir and the Home Extension Club. She was very active in the Bloodmobile Drives conducted in Gates County.

Survivors include a son, Richard Nichols of Gates; a stepdaughter, Carol Nichols Wondering; and a granddaughter.

Jim Riddick
GATES - Jim Riddick, 76, a native of Gates County, died September 12, 2001, at his residence.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Winton, by Brother Kelly Bond. Burial was in the Riddick family cemetery, Gates.

Survivors include his children, Hardy J. Spruill Sr. of Gates and Alvin Hall and Linnie Hall, both of Suffolk, Va.; sisters and brothers, Margaret Revelle, Beulah Mae Forney and Minnie James, all of East Orange, N.J., Alee Riddick and Thelma Lee Revelle, both of Gates; and eight grandchildren.

Kyla M. Turner
FRANKLIN, Va.--- Kyla M Turner, 15 months, a native of Franklin, Died Sept 8, 2001, at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Norfolk.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Eure Baptist Church, Eure, by the Revs. Carl Johnson, Billy Presley and William Hawkins.

Burial was in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, was in charge.

Survivors include her parents, Janeen Nobles and Mickey W. Turner, both of Franklin; maternal grandparents, Michelle and Richard Casper of Suffolk; maternal great-grandparents, Lorraine Nobles of Eure, James Nobles of Virginia Beach; paternal
grandparents, Michael and Carolyn Turner of Suffolk; and paternal great-grandparents, Robert and Edna Turner of Colerain and James and Joyce Lee of Winton.

Mildred P. Eure
ROCKY MOUNT - Mildred Parker Eure, 54, formerly of Roduco, died September 9, 2001.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Presley. Interment was in Ahoskie Cemetery. Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.

Miss Eure attended Chowan College and was a graduate of X-Ray Technology from Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount, where she worked in the x-ray department for a number of years.

Survivors include her brother, Allan Eure of Raleigh; and a niece and nephew.

Goldie N. Speight
CONWAY - Goldie Nicholson Speight, 82, a native of Northampton County, died September 15, 2001 in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. She was the widow of John W. Garris and Harvey Speight.

Mrs. Speight was retired from Talon Zipper Company in Woodland after 27 years of service. She was a member of Savage United Methodist Church in Gates County where she was active in the United Methodist Women and was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Thadys G. Simmons Conway; two sons, William Conway and Marvin Garris Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; a stepsister, Nellie Simpson of Galatia.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Conway Baptist Church by the Rev. Willie McLawhorn.

Burial will be in the Town of Conway Cemetery. Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., Conway, is in charge. Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of one's choice.
