Mrs. Garris was a member of First Corinthian Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Philypa G. McKeithan; five sons, H. Thomas Green, Keith, Samuel, Zavan and Dalton Garris; two sisters, Jean Ryland and Sallie Smith; two brothers, Amos Green Sr. and Henry Morings; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Aubrey L. Ramsey A graveside service was conducted Wednesday at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Sturtevant Funeral Home was in charge. Ramsey was a Baptist and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Gerry Ramsey; a daughter, Doris Vick of Chesapeake; a son, William L. Ramsey of Gates County; two sisters, Margaret Tribble of Bel Air, Neb., and Jean Eason of Odessa, Fla.; a brother, Richard Ramsey of Chesapeake; and four grandchildren. Marjorie E. Gregory A funeral was conducted Saturday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, by the Rev. Tracy Gregory. Burial was in Up River Friends Cemetery. Mrs. Gregory was a member of Up River Friends Meeting. Survivors include a son, Barry Gregory of Chesapeake, Va.; three sisters, Lorraine Casper of Belvidere, Betty Lou Riddick of Hobbsville and Gracie Lee Riddick of Elizabeth City; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Frances E. Mattingly A graveside service was conducted Tuesday at Green Lawn Cemetery; Newport News, Va. Harrell Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs. Mattingly was a beauty consultant for over 50 years. She was a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Robert Smith of Gatesville and Jack Hughes of Newport News; a sister, Bernice Elliott of Sandston; and nine grandchildren. Doris E. Askew A funeral was conducted Monday at Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Jack Edge. Burial was in the church cemetery. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, was in charge. Mrs. Askew was a homemaker and a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Randy Jackson Askew of Durham; a sister, Mildred Eure of Washington; and a brother, S.V. Eure of Martinsville. Elijah L. Alston A graveside service was conducted Monday at Rosewood Memorial Cemetery, Virginia Beach, Crocker Funeral Home was in charge. Alston was a member of the Word Wide Church of God and a veteran of The United States Army. Survivors include his wife. Verna D. Alston; a daughter, Marianne K. Jackson of Gates; two sons, Willard Boone of Portsmouth and Morris Alston of Virginia Beach; one brother, Samuel Alston of Suffolk: six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Lucille D. Martin A graveside service was conducted Monday at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk, by the Rev. Gregory L. Hensley. Graham Funeral Home was in charge. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Peggy Martin, Rose Yahner and June Lynch, all of Chesapeake and Mary Schicker of New York; five sons, Harry Martin, William Martin, James Martin, Clarence Martin and Donald Martin, all of Chesapeake; two sisters, Susie Palmer of Charlotte and Mary Linton of Roanoke; four brothers, William Doughtie of Hinesville, Ga., Clarence Doughtie of Gates, Ralph Doughtie of North Carolina and Danny Doughtie of Maryland; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Wallace Reid A funeral was conducted Monday in Celestial Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Leon J. Boone. Burial was in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fisher Funeral Home was in charge. Reid retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 33 years of service and was a member of Celestial Baptist Church. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Winefred T. Reid; four sons,
Charles Reid, Michael Reid, Barry Reid and Darrell Reid; stepdaughters,
Pamela Williams and Belinda Banks; a sister, Fletcher Cross; nine grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren. |
