James P. Boone
AHOSKIE - James Phillip Boone, 84, a resident of Guardian Care Nursing Home, died Feb. 11, 2002 in Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

A native of Gates County, Boone was a graduate of NCTS/Southwestern High School, Nansemond County, Suffolk Class of 1936.

He was the son of the late Rose Melton Boone and William J. Boone.

A funeral was held at 2 p.m., Feb. 15, 2002 in New Hope Baptist Church, Gates, by the Rev. James K. Brown, pastor. Burial was in the Boone Family Cemetery in Roduco.

Survivors include a son, Rocky Boone of Williamsport, Pa.; a sister, Clarice Holland of Suffolk; a special friend, Erma Lee Parker of Roduco and several grandchildren.

Lila C. Parker
GATESVILLE - Lila Casper Parker, 90, a native of Gates County, died Feb. 16, 2002.

Parker was a member of Higher Ground Pentecoastal Holiness Church. She was the daughter of the late Calvin and Nannie T. Casper. She was the widow of Monnie "Marvin" Parker. She was a homemaker.

A funeral was held Feb. 19. 2002 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Edenton by the Rev. Charles Lockwood and Rev. Lester Jarrett. Burial was in the Ahoskie Cemetery.

Survivors include five daughters, Dorothy P. Coats of Edenton, Myrtle P. Pierce of Ahoskie, Lillie P. Hollowell, Francis P. Brabble, Louise P. Harmon; one foster daughter, Lula C. Cooper of Ahoskie; two sons, McCoy Parker of Edenton and Monnie V. Parker of Ahoskie; one sister, Vennie Harrell of Hobbsville; one brother, Clinton Casper of Hobbsville; 30 grandchildren, 57 great- grandchildren and 27 great- great-grandchildren.
