James R. Williams
GATESVILLE - James "Jimmy" Riddick Williams Sr., 56, a native of Portsmouth, Va., died March 23, 2002 in Albemarle Hospital.

Williams was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church. He was a Army and National Guard veteran and was the son Clint Williams of Eure and the late Wanna Perry Williams Adams.

A funeral was conductedMarch 27, 2002 at Cool Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Vern Gilmer officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy Williams of Gatesville; two sons, Jimmy Sales of Richmond, Va. and Jamie Williams of Elizabeth City; two step-children, Trudy Harris of Gates and David Lane of Suffolk; one sister, Molly Coley of Eure and seven grandchildren.

Lillian G. Spivey
HOBBSVILLE - Lillian Goodwin Spivey, 82, a native of Chowan County, died March 25, 2002 in the Skills Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

Mrs. Spivey was the daughter of the late James W. and Catherine "Katie" Asbell Goodwin. A nurse, she worked at Chowan Hospital and Britthaven Nursing Home, both in Edenton, and was a member of Warwick Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late W.T. "Tommie" Spivey Sr.

A funeral was held March 28, 2002 in Warwick Baptist Church by Dr. Charles Jones. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Gloria S. Twine of Hobbsville; two sons, W. Thomas Spivey Jr. of Hobbsville and James Herbert Spivey of Elizabeth City; a stepdaughter, Hazel S. Bass of Hobbsville; three sisters, Eva G. Modlin of Sunbury, Syble G. Abrams of Norfolk and Doris Jean Jackson of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Dr. Frederick L. Goodwin of Oregon and Floyd Goodwin of Suffolk; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
