Gates County IndexMay 15, 2002William A. Gregory Gregory was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 30 years of service. He also retired from The Virginian-Pilot after eight years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk. A funeral was held May 9, 2002 in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, by the Rev. Dick Baker and the Rev. Pete Taylor. Burial was in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Norfolk, 312 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, Va. 23502. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne S. Gregory: a daughter, Melody G. Floyd of Suffolk: two sons, Kenneth Alan Gregory of Gates County and Jeffrey Mark Gregory of Chesapeake; two sisters, Ellen E. Hawkins of Olathe, Kan., and Bette G. Winchell of Southport, NC and three grandchildren. Tencie C. Duke Mrs. Duke was the widow of Andrew J. Duke of Potecasi. Duke was the daughter of the late Johnny and Tabitha Colson. She was a member of Potecasi Baptist Church, where she was active in her Sunday School class and the W.M.U. A funeral was held May 13. 2002 at Potecasi Baptist Church by Pastor Harold DeLong. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Potecasi Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Richard Duke of Williamston; two daughters. Mary Nooney of Roanoke Rapids and Linda Perry of Colerain a sister, Lizzie Barnes of Potecasi; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Frazier C. Savage Savage retired from Northampton County Public Schools. Survivors include two brothers, WS Creecy of Rich Square and Hollis F-Creecy of Sunbury: and a sister, Myrtle C. Crockett. Dolly W. Carr Carr was a homemaker and a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Smithfield, where she was the organist for more than 37 years and choir director for a number of years. Carr was the daughter of the late Shelley Burch Watson and Alice Whitley Watson. She was also the organist for Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home for more than 20 years. A funeral was conducted May 14, 2002 in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Theodore Bailey, interim pastor of Christ Episcopal Church officiating. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Charles B. Carr Jr. of, Suffolk; a daughter. Dolly W. Chin of Baltimore. MD: two sons. Charles B Carr III of Windsor. Va. and William L. Carr of Gates; a brother, the Rev. Shelly "Joel" Burch Watson of I Shady Cove, Ore.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jerry V. Jones Sr. Survivors include a sister, Tabitha Harrell of Sunbury; four daughters, Cecilia R. Parker of Portsmouth, Charlotte Powell and Janice Jones of Laurel, Md.; and Emma Burton of Sacramento, Calif; four sons, Jerry V. Jones Jr. of Chesapeake, Samuel Jones of Portsmouth, Titus Jones of Atlanta, Ga. and Reginald Jones of Kankakee; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lucy L. Guess Guess was a member of First Methodist Church in Kentucky and the daughter of the late Robert and Hattie Potts Long. She was the widow of Billy Rae Guess. A funeral was held May 13, 2002 at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel in Gatesville with the Rev. Tim Lambert officiating. Survivors include three daughters, Betty Jean Dorsey of
Pasadena, MD; Bille Dean Ogden of Louisville, Ky and Peggy Ann Barden
