L. Carlton Johnson
EURE - Lewis Carlton Johnson, 62, a native of Gates County, died Aug. 12, 2002 in Chesapeake General Hospital.

Johnson was the son of the late Lewis P. and Marie Harrell Johnson. He had retired as a pipefitter from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, was a member of Eure Christian Church, and had served in the National Guard. He was presently employed in the security department of Lewis Lumber Co.

A graveside service was held Aug. 15, 2002 in Eure Christian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Wayne Gardner.

Survivors include his wife, Katie Smith Johnson; a son, Scott Johnson: three sisters, Myrna Lowe of Gatesville, Rachel Evans of Medina, Ohio, and Joyce Umphlette of Ahoskie; his step-mother, Garnette Johnson of Eure; two grandsons.

GATES - Rayfield Vaughan Sr., 58, died Aug. 20, 2002.

A funeral was held Aug. 15, 2002 in New Calvary Baptist Church, Suffolk.
