A funeral was conducted Aug. 31, 2002 in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth by the Rev. Linwood Boone. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie M. Green; three sons, two sisters, and a brother. Frances Eley A funeral was held Sept. 8, 2002 at Joppa Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Boone presiding. Burial was in the Johnson Family Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Phillip Eley; five daughters, Frances Eley-Williams of Fayetteville, LaToya Eley of Gates, Tanya Burke of Belvidere. Katina Kee and Delma Johnson, both of Hobbsville; her mother, Olivia Johnson of Gates; three brothers, Charlie Johnson, Preston Johnson and Joe McKoy Eure, all of Gates; one sister, Peggy Johnson of Ahoskie; and seven grandchildren. Shirley 0. Lane Lane was retired from Defense Investigative Services. She was of the Baptist faith. A graveside service was conduced Sept. 12, 2002 in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Edgar Kent officiating. Survivors include her husband, Linwood S Lane Jr.; a son, Linwood S. Lane III of Gates County; three sisters, Mildred Pleasant of Chesapeake, Lucy Bowen of Newport News and Joani Taye of Norfolk; two brothers, Bobby Hyler of Suffolk and Thomas Hyler of Chesapeake; one grandson of Merigate, FL. Edward V. Willey Willey was the son of the late Dan Arthur Sr. and Rosa Whedbee Willey. A retired farmer and mail carrier, he was a member of Kittrell's United Methodist Church. A funeral was held Sept. 16, 2002 in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville by the Rev. Bill Altman. Burial was held in the Gatesville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to one's favorite charity. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Boone Willey, a daughter, Nancy Willey Piper of Raleigh; a sister, Ada W. Carroll of Gates; five brothers, Whedbee Willey of Gates, D.A. Willey Jr. of Nashville, John Willey of Corapeake, Harry Willey of Hobbsville and Tom Willey of Gaston; and one granddaughter. Charles E. Ellis Ellis was the son of the late Thurman E. and Mildred Carter Ellis. He had retired from Hercules Inc., was a member of the Gatesville United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association and had served in the U.C. Coast Guard. A funeral was held Sept. 16, 2002 in Gatesville Methodist Church by the Rev. William Clements, pastor. Burial will be in the Ellis Family Cemetery.
