The R-C News-HeraldMay 29, 2003Arthur B. Davis SMITHFIELD, Va. - Arthur Braxton Davis, 73, a native of Creeksville, died May 25, 2003 in Riverside Convalescent Center. A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton. Colonial Funeral Home is in charge. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 77, Carrollton, VA 23314 or the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431. Davis retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant major with 24 years of service, including one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. Following his retirement from active duty, he served 13 years of civil service operating the mailroom for Appl Tech Labs at Fort Eustis. He was a member of Creeksville Baptist Church and taught Sunday school at Fort Monroe. Survivors include his wife, Mildred C. Davis; four daughters, Bonny D. Butler of Savage, Md., Audrey D. Dunston of Elkridge, Md., Debra D. Kaylor of Laurel, Md. and Shirley T. Jones of Windsor, Va.; one son, Dale Davis of Duilford, Md.; and a sister, Shelby D. Silkwood of Chesapeake; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. William S. Price LITTLETON - William Sylvester Price, 69, died May 22, 2003, at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids. A funeral service was conducted at Wednesday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Interment will be conducted Thursday in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington, D.C. Queenie Grant FRANKLIN, Va. - Queenie Grant, 80, died May 25, 2003. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Como. Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home is in charge. Calvin Swain COLERAIN - Calvin Swain, died May 27, 2003, at his residence. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ashland Missionary Baptist Church, Colerain, by the Rev. Nathaniel Thompson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge. Swain was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lillian C. Swain; a daughter, Gladys Swains of Powellsville; two brothers, James Swain of Colerain and Ernest R. Swain of Winton; one sister, Alma C. Taylor of Edenton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. |
