A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Dennis Conner. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the Bertie County Rescue Squad, PO Box 78, Windsor, N.C. 27983. Mrs. Sabo was a homemaker and a Baptist. She is survived by a brother, Edward Bazemore of Aztez, NM. Margaret H. Church NORFOLK, Va. - Margaret H. Church, 85, a native of Gates County, died June 5, 2003, at Julia's Home in Chesapeake. She was the widow of Harry G. Church. A funeral was conducted Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. William ``Gus'' Wright. An Eastern Star service followed. Entombment followed in Forest Lawn Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, c/o Khedive Temple, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320. Mrs. Church was a retired civil servant. She was a member of Miles Memorial United Methodist Church, a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Westminster Chapter No. 99 and many other Masonic organizations. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Jewel M. Spence VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Jewel M. Spence, 101, a native of Northampton County, and formerly of Norfolk, died June 5, 2003. She was the widow of Raymond B. Spence. The funeral was conducted Monday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Monday by Dr. Ken Barnes. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Jewel Spence to Woodland Heights Baptist Church for the Paul D. Moore Scholarship Fund. She was a member of the Woodland Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake, the WOM organization and an honorary member of the King's Daughters. Survivors include a son, Melvin M. Spence of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Shirley L. Spencer of Virginia Beach and Dorothy S. Dederick of Virginia Beach and Greenwich, Conn.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Blackwell Speight SUNBURY - Ervin Blackwell Speight Jr., 85, a native of Gates County, died June 6, 2003 in Obici Hospital, Suffolk. A funeral was conducted Sunday in Sandy Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. Speight retired as a sales representative with Webster Brick Co. in Suffolk, he was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was Purple Heart recipient. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Brothers; a son, Donald Speight, both of Suffolk; a sister, Ella Mary Savage of Bowie, Md.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Norma J. Watson PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Norma J. Watson, 90, a native of Jackson, died June 4, 2003, at Maryview Medical Center. A funeral was conducted Monday at St. James Episcopal Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Dr. John O. Agbaje. Burial was Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs. Watson she was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and Episcopal Church Women. Survivors include her husband, Harold L. Watson Sr.; a son, Harold L. Watson Jr. of Hampton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Robert L. Blowe VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Robert Lee Blowe, 79, a native of Woodland, died June 7, 2003. A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory by the Rev. Charles H. Stover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. Blowe was a heavy-duty mechanic and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Jones SUFFOLK, Va. - Irene Baines Jones, 95, a native of Seaboard, died June 4, 2003. She was the widow of Vernon Edward Jones Jr. A funeral was conducted Monday at Parr Funeral Home by the Rev. Jones Jr. of Suffolk; and nieces; and nephews. Maggie E. Booth CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Maggie E. Booth, a native of Conway, died June 7, 2003 at Sentara Nursing Center, Norfolk. She was the widow of Lenius L. Booth. Survivors include a daughter, Helen B. Artis of Virginia Beach; a son, Otha R. Edwards of Chesapeake; three sisters, Clarine Woodhouse and Eva Warren, both of Norfolk, and Mary Josey Prost of Kannapolis; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Macedonia Christian UCC, Norfolk, by Pastor A.D. Wright. The family will assemble at 2200 Sparrow Road, Chesapeake, at noon. Mason, 68, a native of Gaston, died June 6, 2003, in Halifax Memorial Hospital, Roanoke Rapids. A funeral will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Carmel Baptist Church by the Rev. E.T. Knight Sr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin at noon Tuesday at Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Mason retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad as a shipping clerk after 30 years. She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and Truxton Chapter No. 63, Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, Phillip C. Mason Sr.; two daughters, Cynthia Jones of Norfolk and Betty W. Mason of Portsmouth; two sons, Phillip C. Mason Jr. of Portsmouth and Michael A. Mason of Norfolk; five sisters, Thelma Moody of Gaston, Jesse Armstrong of Baltimore, Md., Nathornia Deloatch of Conway, Pauline Barnes of Portsmouth and Ernestine Yarbough of Philadelphia, Pa.; a brother, Davis Johnson of Richmond; and four grandchildren.
