Lassiter BERLIN, Md. - Ulysees Bernard Lassiter, a native of Hertford County, died June 8, 2003, in Salisbury. A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Community Church at Ocean Pines, Berlin, by the Rev. Dr. P. Thomas McKelvey. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Laura Dean Lassiter; one son, Shelton Bernard Lassiter of Berlin; one daughter, Tymesia Vincencia Lassiter of Pensacola, Fla.; four sisters, Bernice Eason, Audrey Lewter, Patricia Poole and Dana Askew, all of Ahoskie; one brother, Carrington Lassiter of Ahoskie; and two grandchildren. Doreen H. Maranger VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Doreen Harrell Maranger, 78, of Merry Hill, died June 9, 2003. Mrs. Maranger served as a nurse during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. She also served as a bio-feedback therapist and as a registered nurse at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, DePaul Medical Center and the Portsmouth Psychiatric Center. She was a member and served on the Alter Guild of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Survivors include her husband, George J. Maranger; two sons, George Keith Maranger of Hazelhurst, Miss. and Bruce Keven Maranger of Virginia Beach; a brother, J.T. Harrell of Merry Hill; two sisters, Elizabeth Bunch of Edenton and Lucy H. Byrum of Elizabethton, Tenn..; and two granddaughters. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Rev. John Baldwin. Burial will be in the Casper family cemetery, Eure. Mrs. Casper was a homemaker and was a member of Up River Friends Meeting. Mary Russell SUFFOLK, Va. - Mary Belle Lane Russell, 66, a native of Gates County, died June 8, 2003. She was the widow of Stanley Horton Russell. Harriett B. Windley GATES - Harriett Virginia Byrum ``Jennie'' Windley, 92, a native of Chowan County, died June 9, 2003, from Nansemond Pointe Convalescent Center in Suffolk. She was the widow of Charles T. Windley. A funeral was conducted Wednesday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, by the Rev. Bobby Skeens. Burial was in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Mrs. Windley was a homemaker, she was formerly a member of Alexander Baptist Church in Portsmouth and the Rocky Hock Baptist Church near Edenton, and was currently a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Aulander. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Young and Carole Skeens, both of Gates; a son, Wayne Windley of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. |
