MANTEO -- Barbara Argall Barrere, 82, died May 5, 2003. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is handling arrangements.
WILLIAMSTON -- Elton Davis ``Rick'' Carson, 82, died May 14, 2003 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Carson was born in Martin County on July 19, 1920 to the late Eason Roderick Carson and Irene Belflower Carson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beatrice Cherry Carson. Rick was a devoted husband and loving father who will be greatly missed not only by his family, but by his community as well. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theater. Rick was an avid outdoorsman whose passion was fishing. He also enjoyed baseball having played for the local semi-pro team, the ``Martins,'' and later coached little league teams for several years. He and his wife's love for others and God led them to establish the ministry of Believers Fellowship Center in Williamston in March of 1982. The church continues to prosper and serve the community through its active membership. Other survivors include a daughter, Diane Carson of Williamston; two sons, Richard D. ``Rick'' Carson of Williamston and Jackie Carson of Columbia, N.C.; two brothers, Dave Carson of Greenville, N.C., and James R. ``Jake'' Carson of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Peggy Hardy of Newport News and Dorothy Phelps of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Amy Stallings of Portsmouth, Ryan Phelps of Cary, N.C., and Brian and Haley Carson of Columbia; and a great-grandchild, Jonathan Davis Stallings of Portsmouth. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Home, Williamston, with the Rev. Joseph Crandall officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. Flowers are welcomed and memorial contributions may be made to Believers Fellowship Center, Williamston, N.C.
WILSON -- John Dunn, 95, died May 14, 2003. A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Joyner's Funeral Home.
JAMESVILLE -- Kim Weaver Perry, 40, of the 1000 block of Brown Road, died May 12, 2003. A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Cedar Branch Baptist Church. Biggs Funeral Home, Williamston, is in charge.
EDENTON -- George Lawson Watson, 79, of the 100 block of Morris Circle, died May 13, 2003 in Chowan Hospital in Edenton. Mr. Watson was a native of Boston, Mass. He was the son of the late Blanche Kelly and Fredrick James Watson and the husband of Carol Sawyer Watson of Edenton. Mr. Watson retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Edenton and an associate member of the Edenton United Methodist Church. Mr. Watson was also a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. Survivors other than his wife include a son, George L. Watson III and wife, Bonnie of Mooresville, N.C.; a brother, Fred Watson of Norton, Mass.; and two granddaughters, Jennie and Kristen Watson, both of Mooresville. A son, Tom Watson, predeceased him. A memorial Mass will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Edenton with Father Roch Drozdzik officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton. Donations may be made to St. Anne's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 422, Edenton, NC 27932 or to Edenton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 37, Edenton, NC 27932. Swindell Funeral Home in Hertford is in charge of arrangements.
