Mamie C. Faison

KELFORD -- Mamie Clark Faison died May 14, 2003. A funeral will be at noon Saturday in Beautiful Zion Baptist Church, Lewiston. Wilder's Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.


Arthur T. Hales

HERTFORD -- Arthur T. ``A.T.'' Hales, 65, of the 200 block of Dogwood Drive, passed away at his residence on May 17, 2003 at 6:15 p.m. He was born in Swansboro, N.C., to the late Thurman and Lena Gertrude Hales. Mr. Hales was a retired insulator and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Hales is survived by his wife of 17 years, Claudia Hales of Hertford; three sons, Anthony Thurman Hales, Alan Talton Hales and wife Laurie and Robert Williford and wife Patty; four daughters, Belinda Bryant and husband Wyvlle, Sharon Dunlow and husband Ray, Carron Gamble and husband Greg and Terri Knight and husband Donald; a brother, Ernie Hales and wife Hope; a sister, Shelby Hales; three stepchildren, Jerry L. Gray, Michael Gray and Elizabeth ``Sweetpea'' Mills and husband Jamie; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and close friends, Mike Ivey, Alton Swain, Tony Ratta, Kelly Cull, Sue and Dean. He was predeceased by a very special person, Betty Lou, who was a mother of seven wonderful children.

A memorial service will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, N.C. The family will be at 116 Redwood St., Hertford, N.C. To sign the online register, please visit www.twifordfh.com.


Mary Ellen Ivey

WADE -- Mary Ellen Ivey, 89, of the 4000 block of Church St., died May 18, 2003 in Integrated Health Services.

Survivors include four sons, John Lanthorn of Wade, Ernest Lanthorn of Chesapeake, David Lanthorn of Wade and Donald Landers of Fayetteville; a brother, Richard Landers of Richmond; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in LaFayette Memorial Park, Fayetteville, by the Rev. Raymond Myrick. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Reeves Funeral Home, Hope Mills.


Jarvis J. Jones

MURFREESBORO -- Jarvis Jefferson Jones, 70, died May 18, 2003. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro. Hertford County Undertakers is in charge.
