Virginian-PilotMay 2, 2003Flora M. Owen RALEIGH -- Flora Mae Wood Munden Owen, 79, of Raleigh and formerly of Elizabeth City, died April 30, 2003. A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Elizabeth City at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge.
KITTY HAWK -- D. Paul Pruitt, 79, died May 1, 2003 in the Outer Banks Hospital. Born in Currituck County, he was a retired master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force after 18 years of service. Mr. Pruitt served for three years in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne during World War II, before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1950. He was a member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church and the American Legion. Mr. Pruitt was one of the first original members of the Kitty Hawk Town Council and was one of the first Kitty Hawk Fire Chiefs. He was the son of the late David Paul Pruitt Sr. and the late Annie Hughes Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt is survived by his wife, Doris Perry Pruitt of the residence; three sons, David L. Pruitt of Kitty Hawk, Michael Pruitt of Raleigh and Jeff Pruitt of Kitty Hawk; two sisters, Jean Teseneer and Mary Margaret Sharp, both of Morganton; a brother, Dough Jones, also of Morganton; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Stone officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Austin Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence on Elijah Baum Road, Kitty Hawk. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is handling arrangements.
