Lankford R. Eure

RODUCO -- Lankford Riddick Eure Sr., 90, formerly of Roduco, died Saturday, May 3, 2003 in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mr. Eure was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Richard Edward and Ella Felton Eure. A retired farmer, he was a member of Eure Christian Church and Gatesville Ruritan Club.

Preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Hofler Eure, he is survived by his daughter, Beverly Eure Sosbee and husband Darrell of Athens, Ga.; his son, Lankford R. ``Rick'' Eure Jr. of Roduco; a sister, Irene Daniels of Corapeake; and three grandchildren, Natalie and Scott Sosbee and Amanda Eure.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Eure Christian Church by the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Burial will follow in Gatesville Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville.

Joseph S. Hollowell

MANTEO -- Joseph Sidney ``Joe'' Hollowell, 75, died Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Outer Banks Hospital.

Mr. Hollowell, born in Chowan County, N.C., was the retired owner of Joe's LP Gas Company and a former carrier for The Virginian-Pilot for 22 years. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Edenton and a veteran, having served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was the son of the late Brice and Martha Goodwin Hollowell and was also preceded in death by a sister, Nora Lassiter.

Mr. Hollowell is survived by his wife, Jessie Mae Hollowell of the residence; five daughters, Janet Russo of Zanesville, Ohio, Betty Hollowell of Columbia, N.C., Shirley York of Manteo, N.C., Cindy Goldsmith of Holiday, Fla., and Norma Lane of Hertford, N.C.; a son, Ernest Crist Reed of Manteo; a brother, Edward Hollowell of Manns Harbor, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, with the Rev. Steve Crews officiating. Entombment will follow in Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Glenn A. McDonald

ELIZABETH CITY -- Glenn Albert McDonald Sr., 79, of the 1500 block of Pot O' Gold Trail, died May 3, 2003. He was born in Pasquotank County, N.C., to the late Samuel and Bertie Jones McDonald and was the widower of Josephine Curles McDonald. He was a retired production controller with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 6060, a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II and owned an industrial mowing company for the last 26 years.

Mr. McDonald is survived by his fiancee, Patricia Kunze of Elizabeth City; two daughters, Linda Turner and husband Johnny of Chesapeake and Connie Lunsford and husband David of Elizabeth City; two sons, Sam McDonald and wife Betsy of Greenville, N.C., and Jay McDonald and wife Elaine of Camden, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. A.G. Parker with full military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 6060. Cecil C. Rickman

HICKORY -- Cecil Caswell Rickman, 71, of 8th Ave. SE, died May 3, 2003, in Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born May 19, 1931 in Macon County, N.C., he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Rickman and Candace Sawyer Rickman. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley P. Rickman, in 1991. Mr. Rickman was a member of Cowee Baptist Church. He retired from Century Furniture and was a U.S. Navy veteran with 22 1/2 years of service.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Cindy Rickman of Hickory and Ricky and Sharon Rickman of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Laurie Ewing of Cherryville, N.C.; and a companion, Bonnie Sourbeer of Hickory.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hickory Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Tom Huntsinger. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
