Virginian-PilotMay 7, 2003Shirley J. Callis AHOSKIE -- Shirley Jean Callis passed away May 5, 2003 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. She was 75 years of age. Mrs. Callis was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie where she was involved in the Fidelis Sunday School Class and Women's Missionary Union, served as a nursery worker and choir member for many years and helped with the outreach program called ``Operation In As Much.'' She served as a tutor for the Literacy Program at Roanoke Chowan Community College and worked with elections as the chief judge of Precinct 1, Ahoskie. She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Morrow and her husband Phil of Raleigh, N.C. and Linda Bazemore and husband Dennis of Wallace, N.C.; and grandchildren, Stephen and Hannah Bazemore of Wallace. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie by the Rev. Dr. Jessie J. Croom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, P.O. Box 649, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
CAMDEN -- Horace Melville Cuthrell, 87, of the 100 block of North 343, died May 5, 2003. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in New Hollywood Cemetery. Twiford Funeral Home, Elizabeth City, is in charge.
BUXTON -- Martha Elizabeth McCaskey Daughtry passed away peacefully in her home April 26, 2003. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank McCaskey and her second husband, Max Marcallus Daughtry. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Oberdorf and husband, Bill, a granddaughter, Debbie Castle and husband, Clyde and two great-grandsons, Austin and Dalton.
ELIZABETH CITY -- William Michael ``Billy'' Foreman, 13, of the 2200 block of Shady Drive, died May 5, 2003. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel.
ELIZABETH CITY -- Geneva Walker Gibbs, 76, of the 1100 block of Goodwin Ave., died May 3, 2003. A funeral will be held today at 3 p.m. at St. Peters Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ. Walson Funeral Home is in charge.
HERTFORD -- Albion Knight Harper, 74, of the 100 block of Hertford Beach Road, died May 5, 2003. Private family services will be held. Swindell Funeral Home is assisting the Harper family.
GATES -- Lonnie Knight, 87, of Buckland Avenue, died May 4, 2003. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church. Hunter's Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.
CAMDEN -- Audrey Virginia Harrell Smithson, 76, of the 500 block of 343 North, died May 5, 2003. A memorial service will be held today at 4 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City.
