William E. Tann

CHESAPEAKE -- William Edward Tann, 64, a Northampton County native, died June 10, 2003 in a Chesapeake rest home. A funeral will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at J.W. Faison Memorial Chapel, Seaboard, N.C.

Raleigh E. Jackson

PORTSMOUTH -- Raleigh E. ``Action'' Jackson, 88, of the 100 block of Baldwin Ave., went home to be with his Lord and Savior June 11, 2003 in a Portsmouth hospital.

A native of Jamesville, N.C., he retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 20 years and was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Viola R. Jackson; two daughters, Cindy Ann Jackson of Richmond, Va. and Jeanette Ruth Jones and husband the Rev. J.L. Jones of Ivor, Va.; and five grandchildren, Vince, Jordan, Jared, Jamison and Janssen.

A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Revs. T.M. Frye and J.L. Jones. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Joe L. Miller

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Joe L. Miller, 79, went to be with the Lord on June 10, 2003 after a long and courageous battle with his illness.

Joe was born in Old Fort, N.C. on Nov. 22, 1923 to Burroughs Charles Miller and Carrie Lytle Miller. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, B.C. Miller Jr. and a sister, Frances Ansell.

He served three years in the U.S. Army during World War II, including two years in the European Theater. In 1972 after 30 years of service, Joe retired from the U.S. Post Office as assistant postmaster of Virginia Beach. Joe was also a master Mason at the Virginia Beach Lodge No. 274 AF&AM. Joe liked to fish and hunt and was a member of the Bullhead Hunt Club in Appomattox, Va. In 1975, Joe and his longtime friend, Nick Nicholson, originated the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Oyster Roast.

Joe is survived by his wife, Margot ``Peggy'' Miller; his stepchildren, Kim Rabey, Wade Rabey, Tracye D'Auria and her husband Mario, Robin Forbes and her husband Gilbert and Brett Rabey and his wife Suzi; his grandchildren, Lauren and Jenna D'Auria, Caitlin and Grant Forbes and Jackson and Ryan Rabey; two brothers, Fred Miller and his wife Mary of Cape Coral, Fla. and Lloyd Miller and his wife Bonnie of Old Fort, N.C.; along with many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Dr. Janice Sherwood, Lynn Wiles, Rose Serrano, Linda Badgely and all of his friends and neighbors for their care, love and support.

Joe left his body to the Virginia Anatomical Program for research. A memorial service will be held at Kings Grant Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. today. The family will receive visitors in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kings Grant Presbyterian Church, 745 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. For all who had the honor of knowing Joe, we are all truly blessed and better people because of it. He will be deeply missed.

Virginia F. Parker

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Mansfield ``Jinx'' Colonna Folkes Parker, 84, of Grandy, N.C. and formerly of Virginia Beach, passed away June 11, 2003 in Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Born in Norfolk, Dec. 23, 1918 to the late Willoughby Warren and Ella Mansfield Colonna, Mrs. Parker retired as a home economics teacher from Princess Anne High School, Virginia Beach after 27 years of service from 1956 to 1979. She then helped run the 10-4 Plumbing and Hardware Store in Kill Devil Hills for 15 years with her husband, Harvey. She was a graduate of Maury High School and Madison College. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, sewing and cards. She also belonged to the Powells Point Senior Citizens Group and was an expert in genealogy and puzzles.

She is survived by her two daughters, Berry Folkes Collier and her husband Richard of Virginia Beach and Anne Folkes Howard and her husband Gregg of Destin, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Ann Parker Donohoe and her husband Keith of Virginia Beach; a sister, Caroline Colonna Thrasher of Virginia Beach; a brother, Willoughby Warren Colonna Jr. and his wife Evelyn of Chesapeake; 12 grandchildren, Jim Collier and his significant other Stuart, Amy Collier Howard and husband Scott, Hunter Collier and wife Wendy, Chip Collier, Billy Folkes, Jason Folkes, Julie Warden, Jason Warden, Adam Warden, Laura Donohoe, Dale Donohoe and Todd Donohoe; four great-grandchildren, Reed, Chase, and Colonna Howard and Hunter Collier II; daughter-in-law, Janet Folkes Holtz; and stepson-in-law, Phil Warden. She was predeceased by a son, William F. Folkes III; a stepdaughter, Cathy Parker Warden; and grandchild, Chip Donohoe.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery officiated by Pastor Ken Carbaugh. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Ellison Eure

SUFFOLK -- On June 10, 2003, our family lost a beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, Ellison Eure. He passed away peacefully.

Affectionately known as ``Killer,'' he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gracie C. Eure; a son, Lloyd V. Eure of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Loretta N. Eure of Suffolk; a grandson, Savion L.E. Adamson of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Arlean E. Mabry of Hackensack, N.J., Selma E. McEachern (Frederick) of Garner, N.C., and Rose E. Martin (Roberto) of Hempstead, N.Y.; five brothers, Titus L. Eure (Helen) and R. Henderson Eure Jr. of Gates, N.C., Lee Edward Eure (Shirley) of Mount Olive, N.C., Benny J. Eure (Ernell) of Iverington, N.J. and Roosevelt Eure of Portsmouth; an aunt, Elezener Cross of Gates, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Lester Cross (Patricia); and two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Blow (Ryland) and Brenda Boston (Phillip). His parents, Lillie Chaney and R. Henderson Eure Sr.; a brother, Ulysess L. Eure; and a sister, Glenn E. Johnson, predeceased him.

Ellison was employed as a mechanic at Norfolk Naval Shipyard Shop 56, Portsmouth. He was a member of the Vicksville Hunting Club, Sedley, Va., and the Fantomn Club of Suffolk.

The family will receive friends at the family residence. Viewing and visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peebles Funeral Home, Suffolk. A funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Stoney Branch Baptist Church, Gates, N.C.

Howard W. Holloman

AHOSKIE -- Howard Wendell Holloman, 72, died June 12, 2003. A service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church. Garrett Funeral Home is in charge.
