Virginian-PilotJune 15, 2003Donald R. Buck PORTSMOUTH -- Donald Raye Buck, went to his quiet place near the heart of God June 13, 2003 in Obici Hospital, Suffolk. Donald was a native of High Point, N.C., born Dec. 4, 1934 the son of Anna Russell Buck and Albert W. Buck Sr. He was a 1953 graduate of High Point High School and a graduate of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Apprentice Program. He retired from NNSY after 35 years of service. He was known for his sharp sense of humor and his love of Fords. He loved God, family and music. Mr. Buck is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ruth Williams Buck and their daughter, Amy Buck Pace and husband, Russell of Carrsville, Va.; his daughters, Donna Thompson of Chesapeake and Sandra Buck Harrell and husband, Steve of Sophia, N.C.; his son, Michael W. Buck of Chesapeake; his stepdaughter, Katherine Sitterson Carignan and husband, Don of Richmond; his stepsons, James E. Sitterson and wife, Pauline of Portsmouth; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bob S. Buck of Archdale, N.C., and Albert W. Buck Jr. and wife, Rose of Benson, N.C. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Darrell. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by Dr. David R. Denny, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Box 6602, Chesapeake, VA 23321. Etta Y. House PORTSMOUTH -- Etta Mae Yandle House, 81, of the 300 block of Hamilton Ave., passed away June 13, 2003 in Norfolk at her son's residence. A native of Scotland Neck, N.C., Mrs. House retired from Homestead Mutual Savings and Loan as secretary-treasurer. She was a longtime member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and belonged to the Mildred James Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member and past secretary and treasurer of Pilot Club of Portsmouth, the Argus Literary Club for 20 years and volunteered at the Portsmouth Fine Arts Museum. She was the widow of Benjamin V. House Sr. She is survived by her two sons, Benjamin V. House Jr. and his wife Judy of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Tom House and his wife Dianne of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Pam Pierce and husband Tim of Virginia Beach, Michelle Lott and husband Ray of Jacksonville, Fla., Benjamin V. House III and wife Sally of Bogata, Columbia, Jennifer Walker and husband David and David House all of Norfolk; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Anthony, D.J. and Justin; and a faithful friend, Teeny Stafford. Special thanks to Paulette, Bonnie, Lena and Rebecca from Bon Secours Hospice for the care they gave Mrs. House. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. Jonathan Baldwin Sr. PORTSMOUTH -- Jonathan ``Joe'' Baldwin Sr., 68, of the 2300 block of Azalea Ave., died June 11, 2003 at home. A native of Wayne County, N.C., he was a bus driver for Trailways Bus Company after 12 years of service. He was a former member of St. Stephens Baptist Church, Goldsboro, N.C. and a former member of Spring Branch Lodge No. 336, Order of Masons. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Surviving are his wife, Louzelia L. Baldwin; a daughter, Sylvia Renee Baldwin of Portsmouth; two sons, Jonathan Baldwin Jr. of Dudley, N.C. and Christopher Lee Baldwin of Toledo, Ohio; three sisters, Rosa Barnes of Goldsboro, N.C., Estelle Petty of Dudley and Delois Campbell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Eddie Baldwin of Queens, N.Y. and Alton Baldwin of Hollywood, Fla.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; four aunts and two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Vernon Lee. Burial with military honors will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing at the funeral home will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today. Eunice L. Williamson SUFFOLK -- Eunice Lupton Williamson, 81, of the 100 block of Withers St., passed away June 14, 2003. Born in Lowland, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Minerva Watson Lupton and was the widow of George David Williamson Jr. She was predeceased by her brother, Chester Lupton. She will be sadly missed by her loving daughters, Roxana W. Lewis and husband, Juston of Suffolk and Cecelia M. Williamson of Williamsburg; her son, George D. Williamson III and wife, Brenda of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Ronald Asby, Jason Lewis, Regina A. Bass, Faron Lewis and Brandon Williamson; and two great-grandchildren, Candyce and Blaine Asby. A funeral will be held in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home Monday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Ray Hampton. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Charles L. Askew Sr. RUFFIN -- Charles Leslie Askew Sr., 87, of the 200 block of Green Pasture Lane, went to be with his Lord June 11, 2003, in a Greensboro, N.C., hospital. A native of Winton, N.C., he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Askew and the late Nora Copeland Askew. He retired as an inspector from Ford Motor Co. and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a member of Sweethaven Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Pearl Askew Spencer, Lillian Askew Perkins and Myrtle Askew Hughes and four brothers, Henry Clay Askew, John William Askew, Raymond L. Askew and Joseph Ervin Askew. The widower of Doris Phelps Askew, he is survived by a son, Charles L. Askew Jr. and wife, Sharon of Greensboro; granddaughter, Brittan Askew Gruter; and two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Dutch Gruter, all of North Carolina. A funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Sweethaven Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard Stahler. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens with military honors. EDENTON -- Alexander E. DeBlois, 78, of the 200 block of Shannonhouse Road, died June 13, 2003 in Chowan Hospital. Mr. DeBlois was born in Haverhill, Mass., and was the son of the late Alexander Oliver and Beatrice DuSombre DeBlois. A retired inventory specialist from the U.S. Coast Guard base in Elizabeth City, he was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church; the Forty & Eight, VOITURE No. 627; and a member and past commander of the Edward G. Bond Post No. 40 of the American Legion. Mr. DeBlois had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Sara Saunders DeBlois; two daughters, Deborah Evans and husband, Lynn of Wrightsville Beach, N.C., and Anne Bryant of Levittown, Pa.; a son, Michael DeBlois of Tarboro; two sisters; four brothers; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A service of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in St. Anne's Catholic Church by Father Roch T. Drozdzik. Interment will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, and all other times at the residence.
SHAWBORO -- William Henry ``Biggan'' Morrow, 50, of the 100 block of Station Lane, died June 12, 2003. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City.
MOYOCK -- Olga Margarete Osborne, 65, of the 100 block of Dolphin St., died June 13, 2003, at Chesapeake General Hospital. Born in Deinslagen, Germany, Mrs. Osborne was the daughter of the late Alfonz and Lina Koenig and the widow of Lawrence Edward Osborne. She was also predeceased by a sister, Marleise Pranghofer. Mrs. Osborne was a very devoted member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Moyock. Mrs. Osborne is survived by three daughters, Dalene Hollifield and husband, Roger of Auburn, N.Y., Teresa Lecik and husband, John of Chesapeake and Christine Manvilla and husband, Todd of Indiana; her son, Dennis Osborne and wife, Sheila of Bangor, Pa.; many brothers and sisters in Germany; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Fellowship Baptist Church in Moyock by the Rev. James Harrington. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, 871 Tulls Creek Road, Moyock, NC 27958.
