Virginian-PilotJune 23, 2003Marvin A. Creason NORFOLK -- Marvin Andrew ``Jack'' Creason, 83, died peacefully at home on June 21, 2003. He was a native of Cooleemee, N.C., and retired from the U.S. Army in 1959 as a master sergeant and also retired from Sentry Services. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Norfolk, American Legion Post No. 0054, and was a veteran of World War II and Korea. Mr. Creason was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Annie Lee Creason. He is survived by two sons, Harold W. Creason and his wife, Linda, of Norfolk and Haul W. Carnes and his wife, Loretta, of Alabama; one sister, Alene Alexander of Kannapolis, N.C.; one brother, Grimes Creason of Mocksville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Christopher Andrew Creason, Amanda Long, Shannon Long, Kelly Harris, Scott Carnes, Kristi Kay and Tracey Fuls; and many great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Fred Braswell. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Elizabeth Matusiak-Allen PORTSMOUTH -- Elizabeth Josephine Matusiak-Allen, 78, died June 20, 2003, at her daughter's home in Sugar Land, Texas. Mrs. Allen, a native of Caswell County, N.C., was a former resident of Portsmouth. She was the widow of Thomas C. Matusiak (1972) and William A. Allen (1987). She was retired from General Electric Co., and was a Catholic. Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Nethery of St. Petersburg, Fla., Frances Magelssen of Sugar Land; three sons, Michael Matusiak and James L. Matusiak, both of Portsmouth, Thomas C. Matusiak Jr. of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clyde Watson Sr. of Roxboro, N.C. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's Catholic Church by the Rev. Joseph Slowik. Burial will follow in Portsmouth Catholic Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Dennis R. Carter COMO -- Dennis Randolph Carter, 53, of the 200 block of Spiers Road, died June 21, 2003. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie.
POINT HARBOR -- Goldie Hutchinson Crocker, 81, of Pine Grove Lane, died June 21, 2003 at Duke Hospital. Mrs. Crocker, a native of Wise County, Va., was the widow of George Amber Crocker and the daughter of the late Charles Bascom Hutchinson and Pearl May Peters Hutchinson. She was a former secretary in the War Department of the Pentagon and a member of Hebron United Methodist Church. Mrs. Crocker is survived by three daughters, Bettie May and husband Scott, Fisher of Norfolk, Catherine Lee and husband Bobby, Whitlow of Clover, Va., and Judith Ann Schneider of Kill Devil Hills; two sisters, Bonnie Ellis of Kingsport, Tenn., and Madeline Snead of Richmond; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, with the Rev. Herbert Hemingway officiating. Burial will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the residence.
RICH SQUARE -- Dixie High Cunningham, 84, of Pine Street, died June 22, 2003 at Heritage Hospital in Tarboro, N.C. Mrs. Cunningham was born Sept. 19, 1918 in Wilson County, the daughter of the late Patrick O. High and Nancy Montgomery High. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cunningham, who passed away in 1983. She retired from Roanoke-Chowan Electric Corporation after over 35 years of service as a bookkeeper. She was a faithful member of Rich Square Baptist Church. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Janet Batten of Middlesex, N.C., Hackney High of Washington, N.C., Curtis Harrell of Portsmouth, Freddie Boykin of Zebulon, N.C., Patrick Boykin of Raleigh, N.C., and Eugene Dail of Wilson, N.C. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rich Square Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Entombment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Rich Square Baptist Church or to the charity of one's choice.

WOODLAND -- Myrtle Howard Harrell, 102, died Saturday, June 22, 2003. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie.
MOYOCK -- Jack Darrell McIe Sr., 64, of the 100 block of Kings Way, died Saturday, June 21, 2003 at his residence. A native of Morgantown, W.Va., he was the husband of Charlene Garrett McIe of the residence and the son of the late Charles Everett McIe and Lela Emma Demastus McIe. He was a retired aviation boatswain mate from the U.S. Navy and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Elisabeth Thornton of Bethlehem, Pa., Sabrina McIe-Cooper of Virginia Beach, and Kristine McIe of Norfolk; one son, Jack McIe Jr. of Austin, Texas; three brothers, James Dolan McIe of Rockville, Md., William Franklin McIe of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Paul Everette McIe of Tennessee; and four grandchildren. No services are planned at this time. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, is in charge.
