MOYOCK -- Villard Sawyer Humphries, 79, formerly of the 1600 block of Caratoke Highway Moyock, N.C., died May 31, 2003. A funeral will be held Thursday in New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Shiloh, N.C. at 1 p.m. Robinson & Son Funeral Home is in charge.
ELIZABETH CITY -- Leah Cornelia Burger Lurz, 81, of the 900 block of Agawam St., died June 3, 2003. A Mass of the Resurrection will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge.
CLINTON -- Ruth Elizabeth Perkins, 87, died June 2, 2003. Born March 28, 1916 in Portsmouth, Ruth had lived in Portsmouth and Chesapeake prior to moving to North Carolina in 1999. She was the daughter of the late John C. and Lelia Price Robinson. She was a member of Turkey Baptist Church and prior member of Western Branch and Jackson Memorial Baptist churches in Virginia. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Peggie and Robert Hartman of Chesapeake and Elizabeth Mae and George Pinyatello of Turkey, N.C.; four grandchildren, John C. Hartman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Allison H. Heilman of Collegeville, Pa., Elizabeth King of Turkey and Amy Pinyatello of Raleigh, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, William Robert and Sarah Elizabeth Heilman of Collegeville and Zachary Wilson King of Turkey. She was predeceased by her husbands, Wilson E. Perkins and Andrew B. Bray and her infant son, Wilson E. Perkins Jr. A celebration of her life will be held at 7 p.m. at Royal-Hall Funeral Home, Clinton, today. Friends will be received after the service. Private burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice, 216 Beaman St., Clinton, NC 28328 or to the charity of choice.
