Take a pictorial Tour of Gates County
There are
many wonderful landmarks, historical buildings, picturesque views
and sights unique to Gates and the following is the Gates County
that I see from my point of view. Many of these places are vanishing
to make room for new houses or being timbered by the logging companies.
Many old houses fall to the bulldozer or match because they are
in such a state of disrepair or because the land would be put
to better use as farm land. Many of the old dirt roads are being
widened and paved. A great deal of farm land is being sold into
small tracts where mobile homes seem to sprout over night. This
is my attempt to document some of the areas of Gates that I love
so dearly before they vanish completely. This site is divided
into the townships of Gates County. To see some of the historic
buildings, landmarks, or other pictures of the various townships
simply click on the appropriate area on the map below. If you
would like to purchase the book "The Forgotten Gates",
a record of historical architecture of Gates County, you may visit
the Gates County Historical
Society.
I've just
added a new section called "Gates
Wildflowers" for anyone who may be interested in the
native flora here in the county.
Prints
now available!
I now have prints for sale of some of the photos found on these
pages as well as some that are not. They are rendered as watercolors
rather than photographs, although they are photos that
have been manipulated in a photo editor. They make very lovely
prints and if you wish to purchase them you can view thumbnails
on the gallery page.
