Wildflowers of Gates County, NC

Like any rural area, Gates County abounds in flora and fauna of all shapes and sizes. Wildlife includes deer, foxes, racoons, wild turkeys, rabbits, bear, and even alligators. The later being found over the past decade or so in Merchant's Millpond State Park, and whether introduced naturally or by man, we personally saw one at the park a few weeks ago. Many people also swear there are coyotes in the county as well but I can't testify to that fact.

One of things that Gates has in abundance is wildflowers. Everything from the common dandelion to the rare and beautiful ladyslipper orchid can be found here. Because I have been interested in them for so long, I thought it only apropriate to list them within the Gates County Tour, so I have made up this special section specifically dedicated to them.

Some of these photos aren't actually of wildflowers, but other native species of plants. This is not meant to be a field guide, and I'm not absolutely certain of the names of the different flowers or plants, so if you see a mistake don't hesitate to let me know.

If you aren't interested in flowers, then go no further, however if you love them as I do, then click "next" to begin the wildflower tour.
