Chinese Brands Going Global: The Network Your Overseas Team Needs
For China-based teams running Google Ads, Meta, TikTok Ads Manager, Shopify and Amazon: dependable access for everyone, one stable company IP, and fast WeChat.
Updated October 2026.
The short answer
A China-based team running overseas marketing needs three things: dependable access to Google Ads, Meta, TikTok Ads Manager, Shopify, Amazon and Stripe for every member; one stable IP address for the company's own accounts; and WeChat, DingTalk and Feishu staying fast. A Throughwire Team plan, an office router and a $9 dedicated IP cover all three.

Which overseas platforms are hard to reach from China?
Some of the tools an overseas marketing team lives in are blocked in mainland China, and others load but are unreliable across the border. GreatFire, an independent project that tests websites from inside mainland China, showed these results when we checked on 23 October 2026:
| Platform | GreatFire's latest result | On a Throughwire router |
|---|---|---|
| Google Ads | ads.google.com: access unreliable, interference in the last 2 conclusive tests (28 September 2026) | Through Throughwire |
| Meta Business (Facebook and Instagram ads) | business.facebook.com: blocked (last test 19 July 2026) | Through Throughwire |
| TikTok Ads Manager | tiktok.com listed as all blocked across 43 tested addresses; the ads address itself not yet tested | Through Throughwire (Douyin stays local) |
| Amazon Seller Central | sellercentral.amazon.com: reachable (18 August 2026) | Through Throughwire |
| Shopify admin | shopify.com listed as mixed across 19 tested addresses | Through Throughwire |
| Stripe dashboard | stripe.com listed as mixed across 28 tested addresses | Through Throughwire |
"Reachable" in one test is not the same as fast and steady from your office line at 9 pm. "Mixed" means some of a platform's addresses load and others don't, which is how a dashboard ends up half-working. That is why we route these platforms through Throughwire as a whole, rather than one page at a time.
What does an overseas marketing team need from its network?
1. Dependable access for the whole team. A Throughwire Team plan gives up to 50 team seats on one bill, with a shared data allowance, office router setup and priority support. Team plans run from 400 GB for $199 a month to 5 TB for $2,499 (October 2026 prices). Each person can also use the Throughwire app on their laptop and phone when they work from home or travel.
2. One router for the office. A GL.iNet router covers every laptop, phone and meeting-room screen on the office Wi-Fi, so nobody installs or switches anything. Our first choice for offices is the Flint 2 (GL-MT6000), sold on JD.com and Tmall. You plug it into your existing broadband, run one command from a Mac or Windows laptop, and the setup tests itself before it finishes. After that it keeps itself updated and comes back after power cuts. Our guide to office router setup has the steps.
3. One stable company IP. A dedicated IP add-on ($9 a month) gives your connection a fixed IP address on the High Speed (Los Angeles) route, one that stays the same. What it does, and doesn't do, is below.
4. Domestic apps that stay fast. Smart routing keeps Chinese services on your normal connection, so they don't slow down and don't use your Throughwire data:
| Stays on your normal China connection | Goes through Throughwire |
|---|---|
| WeChat and WeCom, DingTalk, Feishu | Google Ads, Gmail and Google Workspace, YouTube |
| Alipay, Taobao and Tmall, JD.com, Pinduoduo | Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, X, LinkedIn |
| Douyin, Xiaohongshu (RED), Kuaishou, Weibo | Shopify, Amazon, Stripe |
| Alibaba Cloud consoles, Baidu | Slack, Zoom, Microsoft 365 and Teams, ChatGPT |
Anything the router doesn't recognise as Chinese goes through Throughwire, so a new overseas tool works without changing settings. You can check any service in our routing directory.
Why use one stable IP for the company's accounts?
Ad platforms, marketplaces and payment dashboards watch where sign-ins come from. On Throughwire's standard connection, as with most VPN services, your team goes out through shared addresses that can change from day to day. The dedicated IP add-on gives your connection one fixed address instead.
In practice, it can:
- reduce CAPTCHAs and shared-address blocklists when your team signs in;
- keep sign-ins to the company's own accounts coming from one consistent address;
- give vendor portals that accept an IP allowlist a fixed address to allow.
Two things to know (October 2026):
- Fixed, not exclusive. The $9 add-on's address is shared by at most five accounts, each with its own credentials. An allowlist that contains it shows traffic came through our fixed address, not that it came from your company, so keep passwords and two-factor sign-in switched on. If you need an address only your company uses, ask us about Enterprise.
- It doesn't hide who you are. Your accounts still carry your company's real name, address and verification details, and each platform still applies its own rules.
To give the whole office one address, add the dedicated IP to the account that sets up your office router: every device on that Wi-Fi then uses it for international traffic on the Los Angeles route. WeChat, DingTalk and other Chinese apps keep using your normal line and never use it.
How should the team handle each platform's rules?
Follow each platform's own policies, for every account, every time.
- One company, its own accounts, real details. Register and verify accounts with your company's true information.
- Give people their own access. Ad platforms and store platforms let you add team members with their own logins and roles. Use that instead of passing one password around.
- Never run multiple accounts to get around a platform's limits. Google's advertising policies forbid practices that "circumvent or interfere with Google's advertising systems and processes" and say accounts can be suspended "upon detection and without prior warning" (Google Ads policy). Amazon, Meta and TikTok publish their own account rules; read them.
- No "anti-association" (防关联) setups. We don't support using Throughwire, or a dedicated IP, to make accounts look unrelated, to run extra shops, or to hide a link between accounts. A dedicated IP is for your company's own, properly verified accounts.
- Checking how ads look in other countries? Use the platforms' own preview tools rather than changing your connection.
Does it hold up when overseas markets are awake?
Business hours in Europe and the Americas fall in China's evening and night, which is also the busiest time on international links. That is when a marketing team checks overnight campaign results, answers marketplace messages and calls agencies abroad.
In our network data for the 30 days to 19 October 2026, the median working speed during China's evening peak (19:00 to 23:59) was 100% of the rest of the day across all routes, and 98% on High Speed. Peak bursts did dip: the median customer's top speed on High Speed was 50 Mbps in the evening, against 80 Mbps at other times. So everyday work held steady, while the fastest bursts were lower. Our public figures, including a top speed of 335 Mbps reached or beaten by at least 20 customers, are on network stats.
How much data does a marketing team use?
Only international traffic counts towards your allowance. WeChat, DingTalk and Chinese platforms use your normal line.
- Video creatives use the most. Uploading video ads, reviewing previews and long video calls with overseas agencies all count.
- Start with Team 400 GB and check your usage in the account after the first weeks. Extra data can be added mid-month, and you can move to 1 TB ($499) or more as the team grows.
- High Speed (Los Angeles) suits about 95% of work, including uploads and video calls. Ultra (Osaka and Singapore) has lower latency for real-time work such as remote desktop and counts at 2.5 times, so 10 GB on Ultra uses 25 GB.
- Every paid plan has a 7-day money-back guarantee.
Is this allowed for a company in China?
China's rules draw a line between licensed cross-border connections and everything else. A 2017 notice from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (信管函〔2017〕32号, text on the CAC site) says that, without approval from the telecom authority, no one may set up or rent dedicated lines, including VPNs, to carry out cross-border business activities.
The licensed route for a company is a cross-border line leased from a licensed carrier for its own internal office use, which MIIT's spokesperson confirmed in 2017 (Beijing News). Alibaba Cloud's cross-border connection, for example, is operated by China Unicom, needs a business licence, and its agreement limits it to the customer's own internal systems (Alibaba Cloud agreement).
Throughwire is not a Chinese carrier and holds no Chinese licence or approval. Our guide Are VPNs Legal in China? covers the rules and published enforcement in more detail.
This is general information, not legal advice.
When Throughwire isn't the right choice
- Your compliance policy requires a licensed line. Lease a cross-border line from a licensed carrier for internal systems.
- You want many accounts that look unrelated. We won't support that, and the platforms forbid it.
- Your overseas team already works abroad. Staff in Hong Kong, Singapore or Europe don't need a China exit.
- Your work is all domestic. If the team runs Douyin, Tmall and Xiaohongshu only, your normal line is enough.
Common questions
Can we run Google Ads from an office in China?
Google Ads was unreliable from mainland China in GreatFire's latest tests (September 2026). On a Throughwire router or app, Google Ads goes through Throughwire like other international services. Your account still follows Google's advertising policies.
Do we need a dedicated IP for Amazon Seller Central?
It isn't required to use Throughwire. The add-on gives the company's own accounts one consistent address (shared by at most five accounts), which can mean fewer CAPTCHAs. Amazon's own rules on accounts and verification still apply, and a dedicated IP doesn't change them.
Can we use the dedicated IP to run several stores?
No. A dedicated IP is for your company's own, properly verified accounts. We don't support multiple-account or "anti-association" setups, and platforms such as Google Ads suspend accounts that circumvent their systems.
Will WeChat, DingTalk and Feishu get slower?
Not on the office router: it keeps them on your normal Chinese connection automatically, and they don't use your Throughwire data. On a phone or laptop running the app away from the office, pause the app if a Chinese app feels slow; automatic China-direct routing is a router feature.
Can staff use it outside the office?
Yes. Team plans include 50 seats, and each person can use the Throughwire app on a laptop or phone at home or on business trips.
Details for your IT team
- The router runs on GL.iNet's own firmware with no reflashing, or as a package on OpenWrt 24.10 and 25.12. Setup runs from a laptop using a one-time code; the subscription link is never typed or shown.
- Split routing: mainland China domains and IP ranges go direct; everything else, including unknown destinations, goes through Throughwire. Routing lists and software updates are signed and verified on the router.
- The router connects with VLESS-REALITY, encrypted to our servers, and blocks forwarding if the tunnel stops.
- The $9 static address is a single IPv4 address shared by at most five accounts with separate credentials, used on the Los Angeles route.
- Zero-Trust Relay: companies can run their own encryption (Tailscale, WireGuard, SSH or Cloudflare Tunnel) inside Throughwire; we carry it without access to its private contents.
