Connection won't start, or keeps dropping
A "Failed to start" or "Error connecting" message, or a tunnel that drops every few minutes. Almost always one of three things.
If Hiddify shows an error or the connection won't hold, the cause is almost always one of these three.
1. Another VPN is still active
Two VPNs cannot share the system tunnel. They fight, and Hiddify shows "Failed to start background core" or refuses to connect.
- Open your device's VPN settings (System Settings → Network → VPN on macOS, Settings → General → VPN & Device Management on iOS).
- Remove the old VPN profile entirely. Signing out of its app is not enough; the system profile itself must be deleted.
- Then try Hiddify again.
2. A stuck Hiddify process
A known Hiddify quirk: a leftover background process blocks the new tunnel from starting.
- Mobile: swipe Hiddify out of the app switcher, then reopen.
- macOS: quit Hiddify from the menu bar (not just close the window). Open Activity Monitor, search for
HiddifyCliorsing-box, and force-quit anything you find. Reopen Hiddify. - Windows: right-click the tray icon and Quit. Reopen.
If it still fails, restart the computer once.
3. The "reconnecting" flicker
If your device's VPN settings show the tunnel as connected but Hiddify says reconnecting, trust your device. Hiddify has an internal health-check that times out on flaky networks and shows "reconnecting" while the tunnel is actually fine.
Mobile works, desktop doesn't
This is the same Hiddify-on-desktop quirk. The fact that mobile works proves the account is fine. Two paths:
- Run through steps 1 and 2 above on the desktop.
- Or switch to a more stable desktop client. The same subscription link works in V2Box (Mac App Store) and v2rayN (Windows).
